Alert level: Set by GDACS (UN + European Commission) from how many people are exposed and how well the country can cope. Red = international help likely needed.
Magnitude: Energy released by an earthquake. Each step up (6 → 7) is about 32× more energy. Shallow quakes shake the surface harder.
Hurricane / typhoon / cyclone: Same storm, different ocean. Categories 1–5 rate the wind; 3+ is "major".
Storm surge: Sea water pushed onto land by the wind. The deadliest part of most hurricanes.
Wind zones & cone: Shaded bands show where 60, 90 and 120 km/h winds are forecast; the pale outline is the forecast cone of the storm's center.
Air quality (US AQI): 0–50 good · 51–100 moderate · 101–150 unhealthy for sensitive groups · 151+ unhealthy for everyone.
